Review of Rosland Capital – Better Business Bureau Reviews and More

A relative newcomer to the industry, Rosland Capital was founded in 2008 as a precious metals and coins broker. They also offer precious metals IRAs. According to the California Secretary of State Rosland Capital LLC is headquartered in Santa Monica and appears to have a location in Burbank. They also have an affiliate company called Rosland Commemoratives and Historic Collectibles LLC which deals in commemorative coins.

The Rosland Capital website purports to offer gold, silver, palladium and platinum for sale. This webpage reads in part as follows: “When purchasing coins, some of the first terms you’ll hear are “numismatic” and “bullion…” This statement is confusing and contradictory as bullion is defined as bars or ingots while coins are considered numismatics. Indeed, when one clicks the hyperlink to each classification the user is redirected to pages that list the gold coins Rosland Capital offers for sale. Also, an examination of the Rosland Capital Store page listed no palladium or platinum for sale. Moreover, as of 10 June 2013 the only item available was the American Gold Eagle coin as the others were “out of stock.”

Rosland Capital’s bullion silver coins include the Canadian Silver Maple Leaf, the American Silver Eagle. These so-called “modern” coins have a higher silver content.

Other coins Rosland Capital offers for sale are the 1 oz. American Silver Eagle, the 1 oz. Austrian Gold Philharmonic (which is not mentioned on either the “numismatic” or “bullion” pages and qualifies for inclusion in a precious metals IRA), the 1 oz. Canadian Silver Maple Leaf and sundry U.S. silver coins minted prior to 1964. (For web orders these coins are packaged in bags containing a mixture of nickel, dime and quarter denominations with a $250 face value.)

Rosland Capital claims to be an accredited A+ rated business with the Better Business Bureau (BBB); however, as of 9 September 2014 the hyperlink on their webpage redirects to a BBB page with just “A” rating there. Rosland Capital is a Charter Member of the Business Consumer Alliance (BCA) with a “AAA” rating, signifying “an exemplary rating. This means that nothing in our files causes us to have any doubt about the company’s reliability. ” Rosland Capital is also a Preferred Member of TrustLink with a 2.5 star (out of five) rating based on 18 reviews. The complaints – which are a majority of the TrustLink posts – regarding Rosland Capital refer to allegations of overcharging, false and fraudulent advertising claims and rude and condescending customer service. Descriptions such as “scam artists” have been made. On the other hand, certain Rosland Capital advisors have received compliments and one customer noted delivery of product in eight days. Another customer even apologized for his scathing BBB review after having his issues addressed by a Rosland Capital “compliance officer.”

The website has four complaints posted against Rosland Capital. One even complained that Rosland Capital took his money without delivering the items ordered. This allegation is forcefully rebutted from Rosland Capital VP Kent Rasten wherein he states that their delivery policy is within 10 days and that “Rosland has always delivered on time.” The other three complaints allege deceptive selling tactics and overpricing of product by Rosland Capital. One complainant noted that Rosland Capital does not sell coins graded and certified by the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) or the Numismatic Guaranty Corporation (NCG). None of these three complaints were addressed by representatives of Rosland Capital.

The actor William Devane and author/investor Jeffrey Nichols endorse Rosland Capital on their testimonial page. There is no indication that they are – or not – compensated for their endorsements.
